on the oncology front. The company announced last Monday that it
plans to release five new cancer medicines over the next three
years, a huge leap for a company whose name is not synonymous with
that space.

FDA Approves First
Molecular-Based Lab Test to Detect Metastatic Breast Cancer
The U.S. Food and Drug
Administration today approved the first molecular-based laboratory
test for detecting whether breast cancer has spread (metastasized)
to nearby lymph nodes. The GeneSearch BLN Assay detects molecules
that are abundant in breast tissue but scarce in a normal lymph
node.

Strategic Outsourcing Agreement With AstraZeneca
IBM today announced that they
have signed a $1.4 billion, seven-year global strategic outsourcing
agreement with AstraZeneca. The agreement renews and expands on the
scope of an existing contract and covers the provision of IT
infrastructure services to 60 countries. It includes services to
additional functions within AstraZeneca, one of the world's largest
pharmaceutical companies.
