FDA Approves New Treatment for Diabetes
The Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) announced today the approval of Januvia (sitagliptin
phosphate) Tablets, the first diabetes treatment approved in a new class of
drugs known as DPP-4 inhibitors that enhances the body's own ability to lower
elevated blood sugar.

Disease
The Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) today approved Aricept (donepezil hydrochloride) for the
treatment of severe dementia in patients with Alzheimer's Disease.

FDA Approves New Combination Therapy for Lung Cancer
The U.S. Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) approved the use of Avastin (bevacizumab) in combination
with carboplatin and paclitaxel for the initial systemic treatment of patients
with unresectable, locally advanced, recurrent or metastatic, non-squamous,
non-small cell lung cancer. This approval was based on an improvement in
survival time when Avastin was added to a standard chemotherapy regimen.
